Those who have a “fast metabolism” need tons of energy to function, and often tap into fat for energy. Those who have a “slow metabolism” aren’t in need of much energy when inactive, so their body stores energy in the form of fat.
As you age, your metabolism begins to experience changes, and this all varies based on family history, body size (bigger bodies use more energy faster), and gender. Below is 4 water recipes that are easy to make and great to have in the morning and between meals to boost your metabolism.
These won’t provide sudden changes, but they will help you maintain a stable metabolism.
Metabolism-Boosting Water Recipes
The recipe includes 2 all natural metabolism enhancements: rosemary and grapefruit.
Rosemary is a powerful antioxidant that boosts the metabolism to eliminate endogenous estrogens. A study discovered that rosemary extract drastically increased the consumption of glucose in certain cells. It is relatively unknown why grapefruit juice boosts our metabolism, however a 2006 study found that obese patients who had consumed 8 oz of grapefruit juice before a meal had lost on average about 3.5 pounds after 12 weeks.
- 2 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 2 cups boiling water
- ½ grapefruit sliced
- ½ grapefruit
Add rosemary into an infuser and allow to steep in boiling water for about 5 minutes. Remove the infuser and squeeze the half of the grapefruit, then add half a grapefruit, sliced. Then you can stir it around and drink it!
2. Ginger Green Tea
Recently, a study found that overweight men who had consumed ginger had a warming effect of energy in their bodies that digested food, leaving them with a reduced appetite. The water infusion also has green tea, which has thermogenic properties and can promote fat oxidation.
- Boiling water
- 2 tsp of green tea
- 1 tbsp of grated ginger
- 1 tbsp of honey
Add in 1 tbsp of grated ginger into a glass with boiling water. After, add in 2 tsp of green tea into the infuser and allow to steep into glass for 5 minutes. After removing the infuser, add in 1 tbsp of honey into the glass and stir.
3. Ginger Cucumber Water
This is a good ginger water infused drink. This one has a subtle taste of cucumbers.
- 1 tbsp of honey
- 1 slice of ginger
- ½ cucumber sliced
- Boiling water
Add 1 slice of ginger and boiling water into a glass. Allow the ginger to sit in the water for 5 minutes and remove it after. Then, add 1 tbsp of honey into the glass and add in the sliced cucumbers. Stir and drink up!
4. Lemon Ginger Water
Along with ginger, lemon juice contains lots of vitamin
C and has flavonoids, a powerful antioxidant.
- warm water
- 1 tbsp of ginger grated
- 1 lemon sliced
Add 1 tbsp of grated ginger into warm water in a glass with sliced lemons. Stir the mixture up and drink it!
