Dirty, stained, & scratched appliances? Here’s a quick solution

Have you ever even thought about painting your washer and dryer? I hadn’t, until I recently started work on a $100 room makeover in my laundry room. When I started to clean up I realized exactly how awful my dryer looked! Scroll down to my blog link to see the finished $100 room makeover. Here’s my dryer BEFORE painting:

Here’s a close up of the scratches and wear along the edges of the dryer. That’s from years of piling things on top of it. There are lots of scratches and spots that are starting to rust.  The washing machine didn’t look nearly as bad as this.

I wasn’t sure exactly what type of paint to get so I ordered (affiliate links) appliance spray paint AND appliance touch up paint from Amazon. Both were under $5.00 when I ordered so they were well within my $100 budget. Plus it was so much easier than I thought it would be.Most of the time was in the prep work. I dusted and cleaned the tops with a regular household cleaning spray. Then I covered the surrounding area with an old sheet so my spray paint wouldn’t get on the walls or floors. Then I just followed the instructions on the can: spray about 12″-16″ away from the appliance with a back and forth motion. A second coat may be applied after 30 minutes. There were a few small scratches that I used the touch up paint on. You can barely see the spots. I pointed one out below. Look between the arrows:

And here’s the finished dryer. This is after three coats of spray paint. Can you believe the transformation? It really does feel exactly like the original paint, too. I think the key is in getting it clean and using light coats of paint.
